TF2 War Paint Wear Levels Explained

Wear is part of a decorated weapon’s market variant. A pricing lookup should keep the wear tier attached instead of treating every copy of the same War Paint and weapon as identical.

The five wear tiers

Wear tier	Typical abbreviation	Pricing note
Factory New	FN	The cleanest wear tier; price it as its own variant.
Minimal Wear	MW	Slightly more worn than Factory New.
Field-Tested	FT	A common middle wear tier.
Well-Worn	WW	Heavier visible wear.
Battle Scarred	BS	The most worn tier in the standard set.

Why wear changes a price lookup

A Totally Boned weapon in Minimal Wear and the same weapon in Well-Worn are different market variants. Even when their visual difference feels small, the available supply and demand for each tier can differ. A direct quote from another wear tier should therefore not be silently described as an exact match.

Wear fallback estimates

When the exact wear tier has no usable quote, TF2Bolt can look at nearby supported wear variants as part of its fallback chain. The Price Checker labels those cases as estimates so you can see that the final number was not taken from the exact wear listing.
